March 18...Spirit Characters...$45 |
Spirit characters will have raw wood bodies approximately 16 to 22 inches tall, with a wire hanging loop. You may bring a special piece of fabric or an artifact to use on your doll. All materials and tools will be provided.
Here are some questions to guide you in planning your spirit character. What spirit do I want my doll to
embody? (Examples: the spirit of the moon, the earth, love, healing, creativity, the Grandmother, the
Searcher.) What is the meaning or purpose of this spirit? What colors, symbols, and artifacts will
help to convey this spirit’s essence?
March 25...Art Journaling...$35 |
During the workshop you will have access to approximately 90 of my art journals. You are invited to steal as many ideas as possible. You will also receive a multi-page handout of suggestions, techniques, and inspirational quotes.
We will draw, paint, cut, paste, and experiment, all in a spirit of fun and adventure. We will make our own embellishments, and construct small books and do a little simple paper engineering which can be added to our pages.
During this workshop you will be encouraged to follow these rules:
There are no rules.
An art journal and lots of paints, markers, papers, and assorted junque will be provided. If you have an
unfinished art journal or sketchbook, you can bring it, too.
April 1...Intro to Drawing...$30 |
INTRO TO DRAWING
Drawing is just another skill, like playing the piano, and a few techniques coupled with a lot of practice will help you to make a line that says something.
We will play with lines, squiggles, dots, geometric shapes, techniques for suggesting the shape of a thing, and a few approaches to suggest light and dark. We will explore the difference between “real” and “stylized” objects in drawing.
Lots of papers and a variety of mark-making materials will be provided.
April 8...Lettering & Calligraphy...$35 |
LETTERING & CALLIGRAPHY
If you want to have a lettering style for use with other projects, this is the workshop for you. If you want to improve or expand on the lettering style you already use, this is the workshop for you. If you want to start learning about formal calligraphy, this is the workshop for you. If you want to practice your rusty lettering and calligraphy skills, this is the workshop for you.
Papers, pens, and a big, fat handout will be provided.
April 15...Memory Boxes...$45 |
Everyone will select from a variety of wood boxes that will be decorated and embellished with assorted paints, fabrics, photos, collage papers, text, tokens, artifacts, keepsakes, and items with symbolic meaning. We will plan and assemble our memory boxes using our imaginations and a few simple tools and materials. Your box will be decorated inside and out with things that enshrine your memories.
All materials are provided but you are encouraged to bring a few small items such as a copy of
an old photo, a token, keepsake, or quote that is meaningful to you.
April 22...Intro to Acrylic Painting...$40 |
INTRO TO ACRYLIC PAINTING
IMPORTANT NOTICE !! YOU DON’T HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW IN ORDER TO PAINT !!

If you have never held a wet paintbrush (but wanted to try) this workshop is for you. If you have experience with watercolor but not acrylic, this workshop is for you. If you have dipped your toe into acrylic painting and would like to do more, this workshop is for you.\
Paints, tools, and painting surfaces are all provided.
April 29...Art Dolls...$45 |
Both the large traditional doll and the three small dolls begin with a wood form. You will paint and add embellishments, developing your doll in your own way. If you select a large doll, it will be dressed and have yarn hair, and attached arms and legs. If you select the three small dolls, they will be less complex. Ultimately each doll will have its own personality.
